Tom Corbett RIP

The Band are sad to report the death of one of it’s Clarinet players Tom Corbett who passed away last night. Tom, who was in his 80’s, was a dedicated musician and a true Gentleman who looked forward to travelling from Palmerstown to our Monday night rehearsals and got on so well with his fellow Band members of all ages. Tom’s whole life was built around music spending 30 years in the Garda Band and afterwards in St. James’s Band as well as Maynooth. In later years he was unable to take part in marching engagements but he was proud to don the St. Mary’s Band uniform, as the photo below shows, for concerts and recitals. The Officers, Committee and all of the Band members extend their sincere sympathies to Tom’s Wife and Family and we know that Michael and Mick Dempsey, Mick Murphy and John Curran among others are already putting out a seat for Tom to join them in carrying on the music tradition that they all loved so much up above.

Christmas CD on sale – we deliver!

In September of this year I was 65 years in St. Mary’s Band – no I’m not going to retire – and I have NEVER experienced a year where we had absolutely NO income whatsover, no St. Patrick’s Day Parades, Fund Raising Concerts or Collections while costs of over €4,000 still had to be met. All is not lost however and we are pinning our hopes on the sales of our CD “Musical Memories from Maynooth”, it costs only €10, which we hope will be bought as gifts for those who cannot get home to Maynooth for Christmas. Unfortunately we are not set up for online sales but we have 35 Band Members ready and willing to deliver the CD to your door, just phone Paddy (087 2537 906) or Kevin (087 2760 782) with your contact details and we will make sure it gets to you. If you already have the CD but would still like to make a donation our Bank IBAN details are IE25 ULSB 9860 9548 2080 09 giving your contact number so that we can acknowledge your contribution. Please share this message to all your contacts, we need your help.
